I am very new to woodworking, and i am making a cutting board for my wife for christmas. Any instructions i find online just say to use a hardwood. I know there are several kinds of hardwoods out there, so i just wondered what kind would work best. I was thinking of using alternating blocks of oak and poplar.

In the beginning, the tile came up very nice…..then with about an area 1′X4′ (by the front door) the tile is breaking and the glue is holding it in place. Will a heat gun work to get the rest or is there a better way??? I am preparing to have hardwood floors installed.
